Helping young people when the family is absent: the case of unaccompanied minors ; Aider les jeunes lorsque la famille est absente :le cas des mineurs non accompagnés

Abstract:
International audience ; This paper is based on two surveys carried out at regional level: in a vocational school managedby the foundation Apprentis d’Auteuil and with a charitable organisation. Its aim is to analysethe help provided by the two structures to unaccompanied minors (UAM) in order to guidethem through a new and complex social, educational and linguistic environment without theclose support of a family network. It questions the specific understanding of the relation tothe family in this context and offers a reflection on the life-projects developed by the youngpeople. Finally, it shows how taking into account the imaginary associated with the conceptof family in the home-country as well as in the host-country proves essential to understandand help this sensitive audience. ; Cet article s’appuie sur deux enquêtes réalisées en région dans un lycée technique géré parla fondation des Apprentis d’Auteuil et dans une structure associative. Il décrit l’accueil desMineurs non accompagnés (MNA) au sein de ces organismes et présente les dispositifs misen place pour aider ces jeunes à s’adapter à un milieu social, éducatif et linguistique complexesans pouvoir s’appuyer sur un réseau familial proche. Il présente l’approche spécifique de larelation à la famille dans ce cadre et introduit une réflexion sur les projets de vie développés parles jeunes. Il montre enfin comment la prise en compte de l’imaginaire associé au concept defamille au pays et sur place s’avère indispensable pour comprendre et aider ce public sensible.
