Abstract:
; [eng] The current study depicts the reflexive relationship among the teacher´s produced code-switching, the evolution of the pedagogical focus and the institutional setting of the Spanish classroom as an additional language. The data were collected from more than 24 hours of video recordings using Zoom and distributed in 13 class sessions which belong to the level B1 from the CEFR. The video recordings were transcribed and examined from an emic perspective by means of the Conversation Analysis methodology. This study shows that despite the dynamism and unpredictability of the interactions between the teacher and the student, the teacher´s code-switching is systematically organized, deeply ordered and methodic. The sequential organization of the code-switching produced by the teacher can be found into two patterns: teacher initiated code-switching and student induced code-switching. Teacher´s produced code-switching possesses a pedagogical focus which can be oriented to form or to content. There are several forms that underlie in the pedagogical foci in which teacher´s produced code-switching can be expressed and those forms bring about interactional implications between the teacher and the student. The lack of linguistic competence of the student signals trouble that prevents the teaching-learning process from happening which is interpreted by the teacher as an opportunity to code-switch as a resource for continuing the normal practice which takes place in the institutional setting of the Spanish classroom as an additional language. The student´s response to the teacher´s code-switching without delay and hesitation is interpreted as a preferred action and consequently the student´s degree of affiliation towards the evolution of the pedagogical focus.
