Abstract:
Lability emerges as a fundamental notion in the work of Pierre Chappuis, to characterise a unique landscape universe as well as to describe the dynamic tensions pertaining to structure, stylistics and poethics. Lability redefines the relation to landscape, conceived as an expanding weave of space and time which eludes the dichotomies between reality, imagination, memory and oblivion, and between presence and absence. This weave is spun from the chiasmus of relations between the poet and the world, and is to be understood less in terms of place and matter than of aura, substance shifts, variations, and dynamics of acousma and kinaesthesia. The lability of space and time is mirrored in the unstable structure of the poetry volumes, as it articulates dual and serial ensembles as well as multiple echoes. From a stylistic standpoint, instability is related to deixis and to the lyrical voice, whose affects are reflected in the movements that affect the world, in the relation to fictitious figures and in the confusion of polyphonic configurations. Heterogeneity is found at an enunciative level, but pacing discontinuation also impinges upon the logical-discursive unfolding of the text, the sentence's tempo, and the figural process of image. As for the syntactic and graphic process of enjambing, it reconfigures the graphic rhythms and the modes of articulation between text units, thus creating varying similarities and differences between the textual dynamics of verse, long verse (verset) and prose. Poethical lability refers to entirely reversible oscillations between exile in the indifference and insignificance of things on the one hand, and lightness, poetic rejoicing and a new grasp on existence on the other. The poet is taken from one side to the other by the poïetic logics of moment, insipidity and savour, and caress. The kingdom for which the poet yearns is not transcendental, but rather stands at the intersection of living and writing, of landscape and art, and fosters both self-resourcing and resonance with others. Poethical lyricism corresponds to a labile influx, thanks to which every reader might be reinvigorated. Lability is to be defined as a principle which articulates multiple notions originating from neighbouring yet distinct disciplinary fields, and which aims at redefining Paul Valéry's poïesis. Theorising poetic work means acknowledging a style of relation to the world, a style of writing, and the way the poem reverberates in the reader ; L'œuvre de Pierre Chappuis fait émerger la labilité comme une notion fondamentale, tant pour caractériser la singularité d'un univers paysager que pour spécifier des tensions dynamiques d'ordre structural, stylistique et poéthique. La labilité redéfinit un style de relation au paysage qui est avant tout une trame d'expansion spatio-temporelle déjouant les dichotomies entre la réalité, l'imaginaire, la mémoire, l'oubli, et entre la présence et l'absence. Relevant de nombreux rapports chiasmatiques entre le poète et le monde, cette trame se décline moins en termes de lieux et de matières qu'en termes d'aura, de manières de subtilisations, de variations, de cinétiques acousmatiques et kinesthésiques. La labilité de ces étendues spatio-temporelles est répercutée par la structuration dynamique des recueils poétiques, agençant des ensembles duaux, sériels aussi bien que de multiples échos. D'un point de vue stylistique, l'instabilité intéresse la déixis et la voix lyrique, dont les affects se diffractent dans les mouvements qui affectent le monde, dans le rapport aux figures tierces et dans le trouble des configurations polyphoniques. L'hétérogénéité est d'ordre énonciatif mais la discontinuation d'allure intéresse aussi le déploiement logico-discursif du texte, le tempo de la phrase, ainsi que le processus figural de l'image. Quant au processus syntaxico-graphique de l'enjambée, il reconfigure les rythmes graphiques, les modes d'articulation entre les unités textuelles, suscitant des similitudes et des variations différentielles entre les régimes textuels du vers, des versets et de la prose. La labilité poéthique tient à des oscillations tout à fait réversibles entre les polarités de l'exil dans l'indifférence et l'insignifiance des choses et celles de l'allégement, de la réjouissance poétique et du ressaisissement dans l'existence. D'un versant à l'autre opèrent les logiques poïétiques de l'instant, de la fadeur et de la saveur, et de la caresse. Le royaume auquel aspire le poète n'est pas un au-delà transcendantal mais, à l'aplomb du vivre et de l'écrire, à la croisée du paysage et de l'art, il favorise le recentrement sur soi tout autant que l'entrée en résonance avec l'autre. Le lyrisme poéthique correspond à un influx labile où chaque lecteur pourrait se revigorer. Il s'agit de définir la labilité comme un principe articulant un ensemble de notions issues de champs disciplinaires contigus mais distincts, et dont l'enjeu est de repenser la poïétique valéryenne. Le travail poétique embrasse à la fois un style de rapport au monde, un style d'écriture et une manière d'envisager le travail du poème sur l'autre
