Abstract:
International audience ; In May 1374, Jean Braque, bishop of Troyes, issued a compilation of earlier diocesan statutes from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. The originality of this compilation lies in its early bilingualism. After a presentation and a comparison between the manuscripts that preserve it, this essay examines how the content of the statutes is transformed by the translation from Latin to French and how this translation is written to familiarize the local clergy and faithful with Church law. Finally, we would suggest that this collection was not written in 1374, but in the first half of the fifteenth century, under bishop Jean Léguisé (1426-1450). ; Promulgué le 16 mai 1374, le recueil de l’évêque de Troyes Jean Braque compile les statuts synodaux de ses prédécesseurs du 13e et du 14e siècles. L’originalité de ce recueil tient à son bilinguisme, précoce si l’on retient la date de 1374. Après avoir présenté et comparé les manuscrits conservant ce recueil, l’article examine les transformations que le passage du latin au français fait subir au contenu des statuts et ce que cela nous dit des destinataires de cette traduction (le clergé paroissial et les fidèles). Il formule l’hypothèse que l’entreprise de traduction date, non pas de 1374, mais de la première moitié du 15e siècle, sous l’épiscopat de Jean Léguisé (1426-1450).
