The College in the Eyes of Its Students

Abstract: Dieser Beitrag befasst sich mit der Art und Weise, wie eine Organisation von ihren "Kund(inn)en" wahrgenommen wird, genauer, wie eine bestimmte Organisation – ein "Teachers' Training College" – von ihren "Kund(inn)en, d.h. den dort Studierenden, gesehen wird. In die empirische Untersuchung wurden Geschichten von Studierenden einbezogen, in denen diese ihr Alltagsleben in Verbindung mit ihren Studien am College beschrieben. Die Geschichten wurden anhand von vier Verfahren untersucht: die strukturalistische Methode von LEVI-STRAUSS, PROP's formalistische Methode, LABOV's analytische Methode und die lexikalische Analysemethode. Ein wichtiger Befund ist, dass das College sich – hauptsächlich bezogen auf Regeln, Vorschriften und Beziehungen – als relativ ambigues System darstellt, was zu widersprüchlichen Erwartungen und zu Konflikten führt. Diese Ambiguität ist möglicherweise eine Folge des Übergangs von der Kultur einer "kleinen Organisation" zu der einer "großen Organisation", resultierend aus einem erheblichen Zuwachs an Aktivitäten, die in den letzten Jahren in diesem College stattfanden und mit einer zunehmenden Akademisierung einhergingen. ; This research deals with the way an organization is perceived by its customers and, more specifically, how a particular organization—a "Teachers' Training College" is viewed by its "customers"—that is, the students studying in it. The study focused on collecting stories written by the students describing their daily lives in connection with their studies in the college. The stories were analyzed by means of four analytical methods: the structural method of LEVI-STRAUSS, PROP's formalistic method, LABOV and WALETSKY's analytic method, and the lexical method of analysis. It was found that the college emerges as a system suffering from a degree of ambiguity, principally with regards to rules, regulations and inter-relations, leading to contradictory expectations and conflicts. This ambiguity may be an outcome of the transition from a "small organization" culture to that of a "large organization," which ties in with the growth in the number and variety of activities that has taken place in the college in recent years, due to a process of academization. ; La presente investigación trata de la forma en la que una organización es percibida por sus "clientes" y, más específicamente: cómo una organización particular – en este caso, una "Teachers' Training College" (Escuela de Formación del Magisterio) – es vista por sus "clientes", o sea los alumnos que estudian en ella. El estudio se centra en la recolección de historias escritas por los estudiantes en las que describen sus vidas cotidianas en relación con la Escuela a la que asisten. Las historias fueron analizadas a través de cuatro métodos: el método estructural de LEVI-STRAUSS, el método formalístico de PROP, el método analítico de LABOV y WALETSKY, y el método lexical de análisis. Se encontró que la Escuela aparece como un sistema que sufre de un grado de ambigüedad, principalmente respecto a las reglas, regulaciones e inter-relaciones, lo cual conduce a expectativas contradictorias y conflictos. Esta ambigüedad puede deberse a que se encuentran en una etapa de transición entre una cultura de "organización pequeña" hacia otra de "organización grande", debido al crecimiento experimentado en el número y variedad de actividades que se llevan a cabo en la institución en los últimos años, debido al proceso de academización.
