	Abstract: Nobody can surely state when and where language contact first occurred, but it became of utmost importance for the human communication and is a phenomenon still evident in the 21st century (Thomason, 2001). Language contact is considered to be the use of two or more languages in the same place at the same time. Ιt is believed that the English language constitutes an example of language contact in the modern world, since it has adopted borrowings from other languages and vice versa. Nowadays, as a result of the extensive use of the Internet, English is one of the most important and widely used languages both online and offline. In addition, regarding, the case of the Greek community, which is considered to be a primarily monolingual community, the acquisition of the English language is promoted both in the public and the private sector and numerous Greek speakers tend to use English borrowings in their everyday speech online and offline, even though there are Greek equivalents available (Tatsioka 2010). ... : Κανένας δεν μπορεί να δηλώσει με σιγουριά, την ακριβή χρονολογία και τον ακριβή τόπο όπου η γλωσσική επαφή συνέβη για πρώτη φορά, ωστόσο απέκτησε ιδιαίτερη σημασία για την ανθρώπινη επικοινωνία και αποτελεί ένα εμφανές φαινόμενο ακόμα και στον 21ο αιώνα (Thomason, 2001). Ως γλωσσική επαφή, ορίζεται η χρήση δύο ή περισσοτέρων γλωσσών στον ίδιο χώρο και χρόνο. Η αγγλική γλώσσα θεωρείται, παράδειγμα γλωσσικής επαφής στην σημερινή εποχή, καθώς έχει υιοθετήσει γλωσσικά δάνεια από άλλες γλώσσες, όπως έχει συμβεί και το αντίθετο. Στις μέρες μας, η αγγλική γλώσσα θεωρείται μια από τις πιο σημαντικές γλώσσες που χρησιμοποιείται ευρέως τόσο στο Διαδικτύου όσο και εκτός Διαδικτύου στον καθημερινό λόγο, λόγω της εκτεταμένης χρήσης του Διαδικτύου.
