	Abstract: International audience ; The present study examines how reading is taught in first grade in France. Observations made in 131 classes in 2013-2014 were combined to determine the types of teaching material (textbooks, picture books, interactive whiteboards, worksheets, notebooks, etc.) and texts (narrative texts, expository texts, letters, recipes, lists of sentences or words, etc.) used in first grade classrooms. We examined the different reading activities conducted with each type of material and each type of text, and the extent to which teachers’ choices vary according to time in the school year or the school socioeconomic environment. Our findings underline the predominance of worksheets and narrative texts, and the limited influence of the socioeconomic environment on teachers’ choices of teaching materials and types of texts. ; À quels supports d’enseignement (manuels, tableaux, albums, documents authentiques, fiches, supports numériques…) et à quels types d’écrits (récits, documentaires, non-textes…) les enseignants français de première année d’école élémentaire ont-il recours pour la lecture et l’écriture ? Quels supports et types d’écrits sont mobilisés dans les différents types de tâches proposés ? Le choix des textes et des supports évolue-t-il en cours d’année ? Les enseignants utilisent-ils des supports et des types d’écrits différents dans des classes se distinguant par leur recrutement social ? Pour répondre à ces questions, cet article s’appuie sur une enquête et des observations conduites dans 131 classes pendant l’année 2013-2014. Il met notamment en évidence la prépondérance des fiches comme outils de travail, la place importante donnée au récit et de faibles différences d’utilisation des types d’écrits et des supports selon le contexte social des classes.
