Best Peer Feedback Practices. A Standalone Module
Laager, Nina Mirjam. - : Université de Genève, 2021
Abstract: Conference Interpreting programs regularly include group practice sessions for their students. In those sessions, peers give each other feedback on their performances. Peer feedback is often seen with some hesitation, but through a review of existing literature, the importance of feedback in general, and the validity and positive impact of peer feedback are shown. The idea of “good feedback” is then considered from two different points of view. First, the goal of good feedback is to help students become independent learners. Second, there are criteria for good feedback, namely dialogue, clarity and precision, focus and fairness. Another important finding is the necessity to train students in peer feedback. As no training tool on peer feedback for conference interpreting students exists, an online learning module was created, using the theoretical findings as groundwork. The module's aim is to support students in using best peer feedback practices in their training sessions.
