Abstract: Reading the book Introduction to Libras: Language, History and Culture enables enter the world of the deaf, increasing thus the own existential universe by contact with the richness of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and the history and culture of deaf people. This work is proposed by the subject of knowledge, raise awareness of the need to build a society in which vigore the principle of social justice for all; promote the revision of prejudice suffered by the deaf that impose discriminatory compactuando with the lack of social equity; and awaken the desire for a full communication with deaf people through Pounds learning, valuing differences. ; A leitura do livro Introdução à Libras: Língua, História e Cultura possibilita adentrar o mundo dos surdos, ampliando, assim, o próprio universo existencial pelo contato com a riqueza da Língua Brasileira de Sinais (LIBRAS) e pela história e cultura do povo surdo. Esta obra se propõe, mediante o conhecimento do tema, sensibilizar para a necessidade de se construir uma sociedade na qual vigore o princípio de justiça social para todos; promover a revisão dos preconceitos sofridos pelos surdos que lhes impõem condições discriminatórias compactuando com a falta de equidade social; e, despertar o desejo de uma comunicação plena com pessoas surdas por meio da aprendizagem da Libras, valorizando as diferenças.
