Abstract:
In the present dissertation, the multi-aspect research on the construction compound terminology subsystem is carried out, its evolution and its current state are revealed. In analyzing the formation of construction compound terminology, the thesis discusses the aspects of the stem, gender, ending selection, components joining, expands on differences in the formation of hybrid compounds and native compounds and examines the problem of compound terms with classical bound stems. Following the approach that it is possible to observe the similar relationship between components of compounds as between the elements of the word combinations, the research discusses the syntactic-semantic relations of parts of compounds in the construction terminology. The dissertation seeks to combine cognitive experience in analysing compounds with the traditional classification by thematic groups, i.e. it introduces the system of construction terms marked with compound terms and the cognitive propositional models under which the units of this system form. The research reveals that the construction compound terminology subsystem has been developing at uneven rates, in stages, and their limits were determined by extralinguistic factors, but the direction of this development coincides with the general direction in the development of language – from designating specific concepts towards nominating abstract definitions denoting a higher cognitive level. The formation of native and hybrid compounds in construction terminology has a number of differences even when free (independent) stems are used as their components: not all the capacities of the formation of compounds, which are used in the formation of compounds with both native components, are exploited in the case of hybrid compounds, i.e. the formation of hybrid compounds is more limited. Thematically, the construction compound terminology subsystem is a structure related to the particular science – construction, and in terms of cognitive propositional models, it is a structure more backed up by general human experience which forms on the common basic concepts reflecting the experience of conceiving the world not just a specific field. One of the most important tendencies in the development of construction terminology – hybridization of the compound subsystem associated with borrowing of prepositive bound stems and the productivity and activity of those which have already taken root in the terminology of construction.
