Abstract:
The considerable progress in qualitative methods is directly connected with developments in the field of text-interpretation. On the basis of a thorough reconstruction of their formal structures texts are treated as autonomous domains of self-referential systems. Such a methodological status has been denied to pictures in empirical research in the field of social sciences up until now. The documentary method, based on Karl MANNHEIM's Sociology of Knowledge, opens up methodical access to pictures. Methodologies from art history (PANOFSKY, IMDAHL) can thus become relevant for empirical research in social sciences. Connections to semiotics (BARTHES, ECO) and philosophy (FOUCAULT) are worked out in their consequences for qualitative methods. Thus verbal contextual and pre-knowledge can be controlled methodically in the documentary interpretation of pictures. The reconstruction of formal structure of pictures becomes of central importance in analysis. All of this will be demonstrated by examples from research practice. URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs0803267 ; El desarrollo considerable de los métodos cualitativos está relacionado (gracias, en parte, al giro lingüistico) a los desarrollos en los procedimientos de interpretación textual. A partir de una reconstrucción minuciosa de sus estructuras formales los textos son tratados como dominios autónomos en el sentido de los sistemas autorreferenciales. A las imágenes les fue negado este estatus metodológico en la investigación empírica de las ciencias sociales hasta muy recientemente. El método documental, basado en la sociología del conocimiento de Karl MANNHEIM abre esta aproximación metodológica a las imágenes. De esta manera, metodologías procedentes de la historia del arte (PANOFSKY, IMDAHL) pueden adquirir relevancia en la investigación empírica en las ciencias sociales. Las conexiones con reflexiones procedentes de la semiótica (BARTHES, ECO) y la filosofía (FOUCAULT) son analizadas en sus consecuencias para la metodología cualitativa. La praxis de la interpretación visual documental permite controlar metodológicamente el conocimiento verbal previo y contextual. Por otro lado, la reconstrucción de la estructura formal de la imagen toma un lugar central en el análisis y todo ello se demuestra mediante ejemplos provenientes de prácticas de investigación. URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs0803267 ; Die erheblichen Fortschritte im Bereich qualitativer Methoden sind mit der Entwicklung text-interpretativer Verfahren verbunden, wie sie u.a. im Zusammenhang mit dem linguistic turn entwickelt worden sind. Texte werden hier auf der Grundlage einer genauen Rekonstruktion ihrer Formalstrukturen in ihrer Eigenlogik im Sinne selbst-referenzieller Systeme behandelt. Ein derartiger methodologischer Status wird Bildern im Bereich der sozialwissenschaftlichen Empirie bisher nicht zuerkannt. Die dokumentarische Methode eröffnet einen derartigen empirisch-methodischen Zugang nicht nur zum Text, sondern auch zum Bild. Auf der Grundlage der Wissenssoziologie von Karl MANNHEIM kann hier auch die sozialwissenschaftliche Relevanz von Methodologien der Kunstgeschichte (PANOFSKY, IMDAHL) erschlossen und an Reflexionen im Bereich der Semiotik (BARTHES, ECO) und der Philosophie (FOUCAULT) angeschlossen werden. In der Praxis dokumentarischer Bildinterpretation wird das sprachliche Vor- und Kontextwissen methodisch kontrolliert. Demgegenüber gewinnt die Rekonstruktion der Formalstruktur einen zentralen Stellenwert für die Analyse des Bildes in seiner Eigenlogik und Eigensinnigkeit.
