Paris Diderot – Paris VII, Univ., Diss., 2013 ; In Frankreich wurde unter Napoleon zwischen 1806 und 1812 eine groß angelegte Sprachenerhebung durchgeführt, mit der die Grenzen aller Sprachen des damaligen Kaiserreichs, die Sprecherzahlen sowie die sprachliche Zugehörigkeit der Dialekte ermittelt werden sollten. Organisiert wurde diese Erhebung durch Charles-Étienne Coquebert de Montbret, dem Leiter des Büros für Statistik im Innenministerium. Sie hat eine umfassende Menge von Daten hervorgebracht, welche die Grundlage für einen 1831 erschienenen Aufsatz bildeten, der als Begründung der französischen Sprachgeographie gilt. Die Dissertation untersucht, wie diese Erhebung konzipiert und realisiert wurde, indem sie den chronologischen Verlauf, die Zusammensetzung der Akteure und den Einsatz spezifischer Hilfsmittel der Datenerhebung und der Wissensproduktion rekonstruiert. Sie situiert die Erhebung außerdem in ihrem institutionellen, ideologischen, sprachpolitischen und wissenschaftlichen Kontext, um sie in ihrer Originalität und Einzigartigkeit als ein herausragendes Ereignis in der Geschichte der Sprachwissenschaften zu würdigen. ; Sous le Premier Empire, une vaste enquête linguistique est lancée en France pour connaître les limites des langues, le nombre des locuteurs et la diversité des dialectes. Menée de 1806 à 1812 à partir du bureau de la statistique au sein du ministère de l'Intérieur, et dirigée par Charles-Étienne Coquebert de Montbret, elle produit une documentation exhaustive sur l'ensemble des idiomes parlés dans l'Empire napoléonien, base d'un essai publié en 1831 qui compte comme texte fondateur de la géographie linguistique française. La thèse cherche à comprendre comment cette enquêté fut conçue et réalisée, en reconstituant sa chronologie, la composition sociale des acteurs et l'usage des outils de la production d'un savoir empirique sur les langues et dialectes. Elle la situe également dans le contexte institutionnel, idéologique, politique et savant de l'époque afin de valoriser son originalité et sa singularité comme événement majeur dans l'histoire des sciences du langage. ; During the First French Empire, a large-scale statistical enquiry was conducted between 1806 and 1812 by the Office for Statistics within the Ministry of the Interior in order to establish the number of speakers of each language spoken in the Napoleonic Empire, to Iocate the language borders and to classify the different dialects. Under the direction of Charles-Étienne Coquebert de Montbret, this enquiry produced a huge amount of empirical data which later on served as basis for an essay published in 1831 and considered to be the foundation of French geolinguistics. The thesis aims to understand how this enquiry was conceived and executed, by reconstructing its chronology, the social composition of its actors and the use of instruments by which the empirical data on languages and dialects was produced. It also replaces the enquiry ir its institutional, ideological, political and scientific context to value its originality and its singularity as a major event in the history of linguistics.
