Abstract: Childhood obesity rates are increasing globally and pose a significant global health challenge, with the first 2000 days of life a critical period for preventative health interventions. Infant feeding practices, including breast feeding and the timing of the introduction of solids, children’s eating habits and time spent watching television have been identified as obesity-related risk factors in childhood. Children from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds experience higher rates of overweight and obesity, however early years obesity prevention programs often have poorer outcomes in these families. Methods of addressing childhood obesity in this population include cultural adaptation of pre-existing prevention programs and tailoring of new programs for specific cultural and linguistic subgroups, however the specificity of such programs pose feasibility and generalisability challenges in mutlicultural communities.
