Abstract:
This paper is concerned with to what extent foreign language learners' age and the L1 have a bearing on the perception and production of one of the most fundamental suprasegmental features in English - stress. First, a general overview is given of pronunciation teaching approaches and the role of prosodic features, especially stress, within them throughout history. The following section is a description of stress, its correlates, placement, and function in English. Finally, the paper focuses on relevant theories and empirical studies that provide ground truth for the influence of age and L1 on the acquisition of L2 English stress. ; Aquest article tracta de veure fins a quin punt l'edat i la llengua materna dels estudiants de llengües estrangeres influeixen en la percepció i producció d'un dels elements suprasegmentals més importants de l'anglès - l'accent prosòdic. Primer, s'ofereix una descripció general dels enfocaments en l'ensenyament de la pronunciació, així com de la funció dels elements prosòdics, especialment de l'accent, al llarg de la història. La següent secció és una descripció de l'accent, els seus correlats fonètics, i la seva posició i funció en anglès. Finalment, l'article es centra en les teories i estudis empírics rellevants que proporcionen una veritat fonamental sobre la influència de l'edat i la llengua materna en l'adquisició de l'accent en l'anglès com a L2. ; Este artículo trata de demostrar hasta qué punto la edad y la lengua materna de los estudiantes de lenguas extranjeras pueden influir en la percepción y producción de uno de los elementos suprasegmentales más importantes del inglés - el acento prosódico. Primero, se ofrece una visión general de los distintos enfoques que adopta la enseñanza de la pronunciación, así como cuál es la función de los elementos prosódicos, especialmente el acento, a lo largo de la historia. La siguiente sección es una descripción del acento, sus correlatos fonéticos, distribución y función en inglés. Finalmente, el artículo se centra en las teorías y estudios empíricos relevantes que proporcionen una verdad fundamental sobre la influencia de la edad y la lengua materna en la adquisición del acento prosódico en el inglés como L2.
