Back to the Future. English from Past to Present
Abstract:
This edited book advocates an awareness of diachronic development at all levels of language in order to enhance the learning and teaching of language and translation. Written by expert or early stage scholars, each chapter illustrates some aspect of this approach, adopting a variety of research methodologies. The chapters explore the contribution of a diachronic perspective to the pedagogy of English spelling, translation studies, bilingual education, approaches to teaching Culture in CLIL, the development of a new multimodal genre - the lyrics video - and traces the development of vocabulary learning strategies in advanced students, aspects of modality in legal English, and the meaning shifts through time of the American lexeme dude. This book will be of interest to advanced level students, teachers and scholars of English.
