Abstract:
Les phrases interrogatives en français, qu’elles soient racines ou enchâssées, mettent en jeu des combinaisons syntaxiques variées. A la combinatoire d’une phrase tête avec un syntagme extrait (à qui Paul a parlé), et d’un élément tête avec son complément phrastique (si Paul a parlé), il faut ajouter celle d’une phrase tête avec un ajout, à laquelle donnent lieu les mots qu- quoi et pourquoi (ainsi q’un usage de comment). Les interrogatives compléments soulèvent un autre problème, celui de la définition même d’une phrase interrogative. En effet, leur interprétation n’est pas unique (elle est interprétée soit comme une interrogation, soit comme la réponse à une interrogation). Après avoir rappelé les données, et proposé une classe des verbes qui prennent une interrogative complément, nous formulons une analyse dans la grammaire syntagmatique HPSG, suivant plus particulièrement Ginzburg et Sag (2000), auquel nous empruntons le cadre général, aussi bien que l’analyse des verbes problématiques qui fait appel à ... : French interrogative clauses, whether root or embedded, rely on more syntactic combinaisons than has usually been assumed. In addition to the filler and head phrase (à qui Paul a parlé, ‘to whom Paul spoke’) , and the head and complement phrase (si Paul a parlé, ‘if Paul spoke’), we need the head and adjunct phrase for the adverbe pourquoi (why), and one use of comment (‘how come’) as well as the pronoun quoi. Interestingly, compelemnt interrogative clauses raise the question of the very definition of interrogatives: their contenis not unifrm, since they denote either a question or a proposition whihc is the answer to a question. After a general presentation of the data, and of the classification of verbs taking an interrogative complement, we propose an analysis in the framework of HPSG, relying more particularly on Ginzburg and Sag (2000), whose general framework we adopt as well as the analysis of the probelmatic verbs in terms of interpolation (or lexical coercion). ...
