Abstract:
Phonological awareness can be understood as the ability to recognize and manipulate the sounds that constitute speech (SCHERER, 2009). Looking through the prism of the formation of language, which is considered a human faculty inherent only to the rational man (GREENBERG, 1961), comes the desire of researching the structures sounds that make up speech, words and phrases that combine into harmonic rhythm in the language. Bringing up second language acquisition concepts, it is essential to correlate the theories that underlie language. In the phases of literacy, children are exposed to linguistic stimuli in their mother tongue, now Portuguese, however, these will also be subject to stimuli in a foreign language, in this case, the English language (ALVES, 2009). Therefore, this article is based on bibliographic research that addresses phonological awareness studies and the use of educational activities involving poems and songs (nursery rhymes) in English as metalinguistic resources contributing to the development of phonological awareness of children in the period of literacy. ; A consciência fonológica pode ser entendida como a capacidade de reconhecer e manipular os sons que constituem a fala (SCHERER, 2009). Olhando pelo prisma da formação da linguagem, que é considerada uma faculdade humana inerente somente ao ser racional, o homem (GREENBERG, 1961), é que surgem os anseios de se pesquisarem as estruturas dos sons que compõem a fala, a palavra e frases que se combinam em ritmo harmônico na língua. Trazendo à baila os conceitos de aquisição de segunda língua, torna-se imprescindível correlacionar as teorias que fundamentam a língua materna, pois nas fases da alfabetização, as crianças são expostas aos estímulos linguísticos em sua língua materna, doravante língua portuguesa, entretanto, estas também estarão sujeitas aos estímulos em língua estrangeira, neste caso, a língua inglesa (ALVES, 2009). Sendo assim, este artigo baseia-se em pesquisas bibliográficas que abordam os estudos da consciência fonológica e o uso de atividades pedagógicas envolvendo poemas (poems) e canções (nursery rhymes) em língua inglesa como recursos metalinguísticos na contribuição do desenvolvimento da consciência fonológica de crianças brasileiras nos períodos da alfabetização.
