Die Entwicklung der Rufnamengebung in Österreich
Abstract:
; Based on NÜBLING, SZCZEPANIAK and VENNEMANN, mathematical models were created to analyse the structure of Austrian first names since 1984. The data show grave differences between male and female names as well as between types and tokens. The length of male names remains static while female names get shorter. Different developments regarding the ratio of consonants to vocals and clusters to hiats result in clear but not unified leanings. There are no indications of a prefered leaning towards syllable or word language, only male first names in Carinthia and Burgenland get observeable more syllabic. The sonority of tokens of both sexes converges despite a decrease in both cases.
