Tradução e adaptação linguística e cultural da Nurse Spiritual Care Therapeutics Scale : NSCTS ; Translation and cultural adaptation of the Nurse Spiritual Care Therapeutics Scale : NSCTS
; Introduction: Spirituality is a human dimension relevant to health, as well as the physical, mental and social dimensions. Spirituality is critical in palliative care, which concerns patients with an incurable, prolonged and progressive illness, suffering and fear associated with loss of life and closeness to death. The holistic perspective of care and the growth of scientific literature in this area has raised the need to use instruments to evaluate the spiritual care provided by nurses. The Nurse Spiritual Care Therapy Scale (NSCTS) is a North American scale, developed by Elizabeth Taylor and Iris Mamier, which aims to assess the frequency of nurses’ spiritual care. Objectives: To translate and adapt the Nurse Spiritual Care Therapy Scale (NSCTS) for European Portuguese; To assess the spiritual care nurses provide. Methodology: Methodologic study based on the original version of the Nurse Spiritual Care Therapy Scale (NSCTS), with its authorization for its linguistic and cross-cultural validation. The original methodology of the scale was followed, in which linguistic and cultural translation and adaptation were done in a first phase, and in a second phase, a non-probabilistic sample composed of 88 nurses who attended training in palliative care at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) and were e-mailed with the questionnaire for later accomplishment of the psychometric study of the scale. The project has been approved by the ethics committee.
