Abstract: In researching alternative strategies to address the lower academic success of Mexican-American youth in the United States this study had a foundation in sociocultural theory. This study examined the role of Mexican universities in cities with high Mexican immigrant and Mexican-American populations to enhance their academic success. The study explored the types of binational collaborations that have been attempted by Mexico and the United States, the role of Mexican universities in the U.S. and the potential role for Mexican universities to improve academic success for Mexican-American youth. The data collection process for this qualitative study included a case study of one Mexican university and its endeavors into the United States. Semi-structured interviews were the main instrument used as well as document analysis and observations.
