	Abstract: Migration ist ein vielfältiges Forschungsfeld mit einer Vielzahl an Sprachen. Diese spezifische Art der Mehrsprachigkeit verweist auf die Frage nach der Übertragbarkeit von Wissen und Bedeutung in diversen linguistischen und kulturellen Kontexten. Für Migrationsstudien zu transnationalen Räumen ist ein reflektierter Umgang mit Sprache erforderlich; die Mehrsprachigkeit stellt Forschende in allen Forschungsphasen vor methodologische Herausforderungen. Dies ist besonders für qualitative Forschungsdesigns zutreffend, mit denen auf die Interpretation von Bedeutung abgezielt wird. In diesem Aufsatz befasse ich mich zuerst allgemein mit der Sprachnutzung im Forschungsablauf und spezifiziere dies danach für Migrationsstudien. Ich diskutiere unterschiedliche methodologische Anforderungen, die sich aus Mehrsprachigkeit in den Phasen der Datenerfassung, -bearbeitung und -auswertung ableiten. Anschließend untersuche ich Praxisformen des Translanguaging als Kennzeichen für multilingualen Sprachgebrauch und Begleiterscheinung von Migration und Transnationalismus. Dabei stütze ich mich auf ein eigenes Forschungsprojekt zu Immigrant Agency mit Immigrant:innen aus der ehemaligen Sowjetunion, deren Anreise nach Deutschland zwischen den 1990er und 2000er Jahren stattfand. Im Zuge dessen stelle ich dar, wie Mehrsprachigkeit produktiv für die Zwecke empirischer Forschung umgesetzt werden kann, um mit dem Konzept des Translanguaging transkulturelle Migrationspraxis besser zu verstehen. ; Research in the field of international migration engage a multilingual frame. Multilingualism raises a question of knowledge and meaning transferability in diverse linguistic and cultural contexts. Migration studies focusing on the transnational settings require a reflective use of languages while confronting methodological challenges at all research stages. This notion is especially valid in the case of qualitative research oriented to capturing meaning which can be lost in translation. As the first objective, in this article I reflect on language use in the research conduct in general and in migration studies in particular. I address a set of methodological challenges connected to multilingualism during data gathering, processing, and interpretation. The second objective is to approach translanguaging as one of the features of multilingual practices and as an epiphenomenon of immigration and transnationalism. I rely on a research project on immigrant agency of immigrants from the former Soviet Union (FSU), arriving in Germany between 1990-2005. I exemplify how multilingualism can be utilized in empirical research, and how translanguaging helps to understand cross-cultural experiences.
