Abstract:
; This paper tackles one central question: can historical, cultural background and location influence the perception of the spatial categories and, as a result, the formation of the scope of geometrical concepts. The author analyses the differences and similarities of the scope categories perception of the representatives of two different cultures. The study has been carried in the course of the current cognitive linguistic approach, focused on the studying of the categorization processes and the repercussions of the categorized objects in language structures and categories. The study completes the series of latest decade studies, combining the cognitive, sociological and cultural orientation of the linguistic awareness study and the study of the communicative activity of the individuum. The study is based on the results of the associative experiment which has been carried out with the help of the Russian and English native speakers.
