In Zusammenhang dessen werden die Geschichte der Kanarischen Inseln, die sprachlichen Phänomene des kanarischen Dialekts und die verschiedenen Faktoren behandelt, die Einfluss nehmen auf die Haltung der kanarischen Sprecher zu ihrem Sprachgebrauch und zur Standardisierung der Sprache. Zu diesen Faktoren zählen beispielsweise die geografische, wirtschaftliche und politische Lage, Macht- und Prestigeverhältnisse zwischen spanischem Festland und den kanarischen Inseln, Kontakt- und Konfliktsituationen, Traditionen und Kultur, der kanarische Stolz, Globalisierung, Medien und vieles mehr. All dies wird anhand bereits bestehender Literatur und Studien zum Thema, aber vor allem einer empirischen Sozialforschung im Zuge einer Feldstudie mit qualitativen Interviews mit Sprechern aus Gran Canaria untersucht. Aus den Ergebnissen gehen zwei grundlegende Tendenzen hervor, zum einen eine sprachliche Unsicherheit, verbunden mit negativen Einstellungen zu ihrem Dialekt und einem Minderwertigkeitskomplex, und zum anderen eine Tendenz in Richtung Neuortung, Wiederaufwertung und verdecktes Prestige ihrer Sprachvarietät und ihrer Kultur. ; The present diploma thesis concerns itself with the attitudes of Canarians towards their language variety, which is Canarian Spanish, within the framework of language and identity. In this context, the history of the Canary Islands and the linguistic phenomena of the Canarian dialect will be studied. Moreover, the various aspects that have exerted influence on the beliefs of the Canarian speakers towards their language use and towards language standardization will be examined. These factors include, among others, the geographic, economic and political situation, relations of power and prestige between the Spanish mainland and the Canary Islands, situations of contact and conflict, traditions and culture, the Canary proudness, globalization and the media. All this is being analyzed on the basis of existing studies and literature, but most importantly by means of an empirical social research as part of a field study with qualitative interviews carried out with speakers from Gran Canaria. The results of this study show two tendencies: on the one hand one can observe a linguistic insecurity, connected to negative attitudes towards the Canarian dialect resulting in an inferiority complex and, on the other hand, the tendency towards a reevaluation, an upgrading and covert prestige of the Canarian language variety and culture.
