	Abstract: Nonverbale Elemente spielen in jeder zwischenmenschlichen Kommunikationssituation eine bedeutende Rolle. Sie können den Inhalt verbaler Botschaften und die Art und Weise, wie Aussagen aufgefasst werden, stark beeinflussen. Ein Zucken mit den Schultern, ein Rollen der Augen oder eine bestimmte Tonlage können mehr über die Gefühlswelt des Gegenübers preisgeben als es Worte je könnten. Aus diesem Grund ist das Wissen um nonverbale Elemen-te auch für Dolmetschende entscheidend. Diese Masterarbeit beschäftigt sich mit den Fragen, aus welchen Elementen die nonverbale Kommunikation besteht, inwiefern sie verbale Botschaften verändern kann und welche Rolle sie für Dolmetschende spielt. Des Weiteren wird analysiert, welche Rolle Kultur in der non-verbalen Kommunikation einnimmt und inwiefern körpersprachliche Universalien auch in an-deren Bereichen des Dolmetschens, nämlich im Gebärdensprachdolmetschen, ihre Anwen-dung finden. Schlussendlich wird hinterfragt, ob Unterschiede zwischen den nonverbalen Signalen beim Konsekutiv- bzw. beim Simultandolmetschen existieren und inwiefern diese sich äußern. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist unter anderem, die Unterschiede im nonverbalen Verhalten von Dol-metschenden in konsekutiven und simultanen Dolmetschsituationen zu analysieren. Dafür wurde ein Experiment am Zentrum für Translationswissenschaft an der Universität Wien durchgeführt. ; Nonverbal elements play an important role in each interpersonal communication situation. They strongly influence the content of nonverbal messages and how they are comprehended. Shrugging one´s shoulder, rolling one´s eyes or a certain pitch can often disclose more about the emotional state of our vis-à-vis than any words ever could. For this reason, the knowledge of nonverbal elements is essential for interpreters. This master´s thesis analyses the components of nonverbal communication, whether they can change verbal messages and which role they play when it comes to interpreting. In additi-on to this, the author deals with the role of culture in nonverbal communication and asks, whether nonverbal universals also occur in other areas of interpreting, namely in sign language interpreting. Finally, this thesis also examines whether differences in nonverbal signals exist between consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. The aim of this master´s thesis is to analyse the differences in interpreters´ nonverbal beha-viour between consecutive and simultaneous interpreting situations. Therefore, an experiment at the ZTW, an institute of the University of Vienna, was carried out.
