语言外部化 ; (On the externalization of language)
Xu, Daming; Qi, Ruying (R10565). - : China, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, 2016
Abstract: The externalization of language can be recognized in three cases: the development of artificial intelligence in language acquisition and language use; the equating of linguistic systems to language proper; the control of the identity function of language. In the case of man-machine conversations, language becomes something beyond its biological basis. Learning a foreign language is a language activity that is extracted out of its original boundary. Language planning manipulates language identity and it reveals the artificial nature of modern languages. The current phenomena of language externalization show the limitations of linguistic theories: the theory of biological linguistics restricts the development of language technology; the semiotic theory of language deviates from the realities of languages of the world; the language and culture theory ignores the power of language planning. Discussions of the language externalization help us to understand human language in its evolutionary perspective, and also help us to anticipate its future trends of development.
