Abstract:
Migrationsbedingte Veränderungen führen zu einer ethnischen, kulturellen und sprachlichen Vielfalt in Österreichs Bildungseinrichtungen. Dies stellt den Ausgangspunkt dieser ethnographischen Feldforschung in einem Wiener Kindergarten dar. Diese Studie untersucht aus kultur- und sozialanthropologischer Perspektive, ob kulturelle Identitäten im (Kindergarten-) Alltag produziert bzw. konstruiert und einzelnen Personen zugeschrieben werden. Zu diesem Zweck werden vorab das Verständnis und die Auffassung von Kultur der jeweiligen AkteurInnen im Kindergarten behandelt. Hierbei ist anhand Baumanns Theorie der dualen diskursiven Konstruktion von Kultur zu erkennen, wie ein essentialistischer als auch ein prozessualer Kulturbegriff im Alltag gebraucht werden. Dadurch ist ersichtlich, wie und in welchen Situationen auf kulturelle Differenzen aufmerksam gemacht wird und Differenzerfahrungen entstehen. Der Umgang mit Diversität ist hierbei wesentlich für die Konstruktionen und Zuschreibungen von Identität(en). Es zeigt sich, dass bei der Identitätsbildung ein dynamischer, wechselseitiger Prozess der Selbst- und Fremdbestimmung stattfindet. Bei Zuschreibungen von Identität(en) nehmen Faktoren wie Hautfarbe, Sprache, Name und Nationalität eine zentrale Stellung ein. Den theoretischen Rahmen für die Unterscheidung und Systematisierung von Identitätsprozessen, die Machtstrukturen beinhalten, stellt das Analysemodell von Baumann und Gingrich ‚Grammars of Identity/Alterity‘ dar. Des Weiteren gibt die Arbeit anhand des Beispiels vom Feiern christlicher Feste im Kindergarten Einblick in das Konfliktpotential, welches durch das Zusammenleben in einer (kulturell und religiös heterogenen) Gruppe entstehen kann. Wie sich Konfliktsituationen bilden und entwickeln, wie damit umgegangen sowie ob und wie eine Lösung dafür gefunden wird, wird mittels einiger Fallbeispiele veranschaulicht. Als theoretischer Ansatz der Konfliktaustragung wurde Turners Konzept der ‚Arena‘ gewählt. ; Changes through migration lead to ethnical, cultural and linguistic diversity in the educational institutions of Austria. This presents the starting point of my ethnographic fieldwork in a Viennese preschool. The study at hand is to show from a social- and cultural anthropologist perspective, how in everyday preschool life cultural identities are produced or rather constructed and attributed to the individuals. To answer this question, the individuals’ understanding and conception of culture are discussed beforehand. Based on Baumanns’ theory of the dual discursive construction of culture, one can observe how an essentialist as well as a processual view of the cultural concept is applied in everyday life. This shows how and in what situations people focus on cultural differences and how the experience of being different emerges and articulates itself. Thereby dealing with diversity is essential for the constructions and attributions of identity or rather identities. It shows that within the formation for identity a dynamic, mutual process of self-determination and hegemony occurs. Factors such as skin-color, language, name or nationality are central for the attribution of identities. Baumann and Gingrichs’ analytical model ‘Grammars of Identity/Alterity’ presents a theoretical framework for distinguishing and systematizing the processes of identity formation including power structures. Furthermore this thesis examines the potential for conflict of living in a (culturally and religiously heterogenic) group illustrated by the celebration of Christian holidays at the aforementioned preschool. Several examples show how situations of conflict can arise and evolve, how they are dealt with, if the problem is solved, and if so, how. Turners’ concept of ‘arena’ is used as the theoretical approach of conflict management.
