Abstract:
Carmelita Muhar introduces himself as a local from Dianed. Her mother was an indigenous Alta but her father was Tagalog. When she was a kid, she was living in Baler, and it wasn’t until she was 7 that they moved to Dianed (in 1960). As she explains, her father decided that life conditions would be better if they lived by the coast. In min 2:26, we can observe an example of code-switching, that is corrected straight way by the speaker himself (Carmelita), who covers her mouth with her left hand in order to underline the switch, which she seems to perceive as a mistake. The speaker continues describing the good conditions of the soil at the time she was young. Her family would plant rice and other foods (sweet potato and banana) which would be easy to grow back then. Also, given that there were plenty of fish by the sea, and wild pigs in the mountain, she does not recall ever having a problem of food supply.
