Learning to handle German adjective flexion by means of corpora use ; Évolution du système linguistique d'apprenants d'allemand à l'aide de corpus numériques. L'exemple de l'adjectif.

Abstract:
International audience ; Johns and King (1991: iii) and Bernardini (2004: 16) consider corpora as helpful learning resources which can be explored by foreign language learners. However, there is a lack of empirical evidence to support this assumption. My paper describes the evolution of German adjective flexion in texts written during a project including corpora as writing aids. I invited thirteen adolescents living in France, with a four-year experience of learning German, to exploit small corpora containing texts taken from tourism websites in order to write three texts which could be published on such websites. I compared these three texts to another text which they had written before without any writing aid. The last text was written with controlled writing aids. The comparison of the four texts shows that exploiting corpora as writing aids can make texts more complex: the number of paratactic structures decreases and structures containing inflected adjectives and adjectives used as adverbs tend to increase. ; Les corpus sont des environnements textuels susceptibles de soutenir l'apprentissage d'une langue étrangère (Johns et King, 1991 : iii ; Bernardini, 2004 : 16). Afin de contribuer à donner un fondement empirique à cette attente, j'ai observé l'évolution de la flexion adjectivale lors d'un projet de production écrite en allemand. Le projet a été basé sur l'exploitation de corpus réfléchis, donc de collections de documents en ligne, représentant tous un même genre textuel. J'ai invité treize adolescents francophones de niveau peu avancé à intermédiaire à puiser dans trois corpus du domaine du tourisme afin de réviser leurs textes pouvant potentiellement faire partie du site Internet d'un musée. J'ai comparé leur production de départ, faite sans aide à la rédaction, à deux des productions qu'ils ont créées en ayant un accès illimité aux corpus, et à leur production finale lors de laquelle ils ont pu s'aider d'un texte du corpus et de lignes de concordances présélectionnées. Cette comparaison fait ressortir que, dans certaines conditions, l'utilisation des corpus peut mener à une complexification de la production écrite : dans les données, le nombre de structures parataxiques chute au profit de structures comportant davantage d'adjectifs fléchis et davantage d'adjectifs ayant la fonction d'adverbe.
