Sprachstandsfeststellung - eine Mixed-Methods Studie anhand der Profilanalyse und des C-Tests

Abstract:
Nach den Erkenntnissen der Spracherwerbsforschung ist die Feststellung des Sprach-erwerbsstandes von Fremdsprachenlernern relevant, um ein erfolgreiches Voran-schreiten im Spracherwerb zu ermöglichen. Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich daher mit zwei unterschiedlichen Methoden zur Feststellung des Spracherwerbsstan-des von Lernern des Deutschen als Fremdsprache, und zwar der Profilanalyse nach Grießhaber, welche aus den Erkenntnissen des ZISA-Projekts von Clahsen, Meisel und Pienemann (1979) heraus entwickelt wurde sowie dem C-Test. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, zu überprüfen, ob die Profilanalyse und der C-Test zu den-selben Ergebnissen in Bezug auf den Spracherwerbsstand kommen. Des Weiteren wird untersucht, ob es möglich ist, dass Lernende im Verlauf eines intensiven vier-wöchigen Sprachkurses eine nächsthöhere Erwerbsstufe erreichen oder ob es eventu-ell sogar möglich ist, dass Lernende eine Erwerbsstufe überspringen. Der empirische Teil dieser Arbeit bedient sich sowohl einer Methoden- als auch einer Datentriangulation. Es wird zu Beginn eines Sprachkurses der Niveaustufe B2/2 an-hand des C-Tests eine Einschätzung des allgemeinen Erwerbsstandes von 17 Teil-nehmern vorgenommen. Anschließend werden von denselben Probanden Verbalda-ten in Form von mündlichen Erzählungen zu einer Bildgeschichte erhoben. Die Äuße-rungen der Lerner werden gemäß der Vorgaben von Grießhabers Profilanalyse aufbe-reitet und analysiert. Die Ergebnisse der C-Tests und der Profilanalysen werden ei-nander gegenübergestellt, um anhand von Kendalls Taub eine mögliche Korrelation zu überprüfen. Dieses Vorgehen wird nach einem vierwöchigen Sprachkurs wiederholt. Die Frage, ob die Lernenden eine nächsthöhere Erwerbsstufe erreichen, oder ob eine Erwerbs-stufe übersprungen wird, kann auf diese Weise beantwortet werden. Die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit zeigen, dass keiner der Probanden eine Erwerbsstufe überspringen konnte. Mehr noch zeigt sich, dass es vielen Lernenden nicht möglich ist, im Verlauf des Sprachkurses eine nächsthöhere Erwerbsstufe zu erreichen. Die Gegenüberstellung der Ergebnisse des C-Tests und der Profilanalyse am Anfang und am Ende des Sprachkurses lässt in beiden Durchgängen eine Korrelation erken-nen, wobei die Korrelation jedoch nur im ersten Durchgang auf dem Niveau α = 0,05 signifikant ist. Mögliche Gründe für diese Resultate werden im Abschluss der Arbeit erläutert. ; Following the findings of German as a second language research projects, such as the ZISA-project of Clahsen, Meisel and Pienemann (1979), the determination of the actual language acquisition stage is of utmost importance for learners in order to ben-efit from language classes and to enable learners to proceed to the next acquisition stage. Therefore, this paper deals with two different methods for determining the stage of language acquisition of German as a Second Language learners: the profile analysis by Grießhaber, the linguistic basis of which is part of the ZISA-project and the C-test. The goals of this study are to answer the following questions: Do the profile analysis and the C-test arrive at the same results regarding the acquisition stage of German as a Second language learners? Is it possible for a learner to reach a next acquisition stage within an intensive four-week language course and is it possible for a learner to skip one acquisition stage? To answer these questions a method triangulation as well as a data triangulation is used. Data from 17 adult German as a Second language learners were collected in two B2/2 language classes in Vienna. At the beginning and at the end of the lan-guage course the learners took C-tests. For the verbal data, which was used for the profile analysis the learners told a story inspired by a comic strip. The results show that it is not possible to skip an acquisition stage and, furthermore, very few learners are able to reach the next acquisition stage after a four-week lan-guage class. Concerning the question whether or not the C-test and the profile analysis come to the same results identifying the acquisition stage this study indicates that there is a correlation although the correlation was only significant for the first data set. The possible reasons for this outcome are discussed in the conclusion of this paper.
