Post-editing and a Sustainable Future for Translators
Abstract: Post-editing is already in practice in the translation industry now; however, many translators and LSPs see human translation (HT) and post-editing (PE) as two very different jobs. The social status of HT and PE is also different, as the divide between HT and PE is becoming worse. But HT and PE really different? In this paper, the author examines this question, mainly by reinterpreting previous studies in translation process research. The results of the original pilot experiment are also provided in this paper. In summary, HT and PE are not so different tasks, especially from the perspective of translation that aims at ensuring accuracy in quality. HT and PE require an equally high degree of skilled translation competence and the same level of high effort to perform MT accuracy error correction. That is to say, the distinction or discrimination against PE that has been believed among practitioners and LSPs may not be correct.
