Abstract:
(Autorenreferat) ; "The model program 'Förderung von Kindern und Jugendlichen mit Migrationshintergrund - FÖRMIG' (Support for Immigrant Minority Children and Youth) was carried out from 2004-2009 in ten 'Bundesländer (German Federal States). Hamburg was one of the participating Bundesländer'. In Hamburg, FÖRMIG was carried out in two sub-projects, 'HAVAS 5 in the Cooperation Project Kindergarten and Elementary School (HAVAS 5)' and 'Family Literacy (FLY)'. This paper considers the FLY project more closely. FLY operates at the interface between preschool and primary school and actively involves parents in the basic literacy education of children. The pillars of FLY in FÖRMIG-Hamburg are active involvement of parents in class, working with parents parallel to classwork and joint out-of-school activities. The evaluation results show that the project enables parents to expand their skills and to support their children at home in their linguistic development; they receive information about the structure of the education system in Hamburg and kindergartens, which opens up preschools and schools to these parents."
