Abstract:
Première rédaction en 2010; mise à jour en 2015 ; This paper is the draft of the chapter on the Hobyot language spoken in Yemen, for the forthcoming volume dedicated to The Modern South Arabian Languages (=MSAL) spoken in Yemen. All the data have been collected in Yemen during many fieldwork sessions in the Hobyot speaking area, from 1983 to 2007. This language spoken in the sultanate of Oman and in Yemen is one of the most endangered language among the MSAL. It has never been fully described. The present circumstances in Yemen speed up the process of endangerment. It did not allow to check the data collected on the field so that the edition of this work has been delayed. However, considering the endangerment of Hobyot I chose to provide right now access to the results of my research. It is the first monography/ grammatical sketch on this language (spoken by about 400 speakers in Yemen). It may be a base for further research on the Hobyot variety spoken in Oman. My aim is to hightlight the position of Hobyot within the MSA group and to get a better knowledge of the development of Southern Semitic languages. ; Ce document est l'ébauche du chapitre Hobyot rédigé en 2010 (et mis à jour), destiné à l'ouvrage en cours, Les langues sudarabiques parlées au Yémen. On comprendra que les évènements tragiques traversés par le Yémen ont pu empêcher l'avancée normale de ces travaux. Il n'en reste pas moins que ces quelques pages constituent la première monographie de la langue, destinée à la faire connaître, à mettre en valeur son originalité et à comprendre pourquoi on a pu la rapprocher à la fois du mehri oriental et du jibbali. Elles sont aussi destinées à éveiller la curiosité des linguistes, sémitisants ou non, à les inciter à combler ces lacunes et à entreprendre des recherches qui risquent de perdre leur objet très rapidement. C'est pourquoi, je juge que ces données doivent être publiées le plus rapidement possible en l'état. Toutes les données sont issues de mes recherches sur le terrain, à l'extrême est du gouvernorat du Mahra au Yémen, à al-Ghaydha, Jadib et Hawf, ainsi que dans des villages de montagnes, à la frontière entre Oman et le Yémen. Pour comparaison il sera fait appel aux données sur le hobyot parlé en Oman qui a fait l'objet d'un dictionnaire (le seul à ce jour) (Nakano, 2013) et aux rares exemples disséminés dans le Mehri Lexicon (Johnstone, 1987).
