Abstract: Intractable intergroup conflicts remain unresolved between Israelis and Palestinians, and around the world. The costs of those conflicts are not only money spent and lives lost, but they also have negative effects on the psychological wellbeing of every individual experiencing the conflict. To make matters more challenging, most of those involved in intractable conflicts seem to hold beliefs that are deeply entrenched, resistant to change, and reduce the likelihood of any resolution to the conflict. In previous research (Rosler et al., 2020) we introduced the Informative Process Model (IPM), which informs and validates socio-psychological processes through which individuals form and maintain conflict supporting narratives and suggests that these narratives come with the cost of perpetuating the conflict, and can be changed. A key mechanism assumed to underlie the IPM is based on an acceptance-change dialectic, where one is exposed to messages that humanize and normalize the conflict supporting narratives, ...
