This paper presents methods that had been recently used to model these structures: geometrical representations of the graphs in which each word is represented by a region in a semantic space. ; L'organisation des mots d'une langue ressemble à bien des égards aux structures sociales, telles qu'elles sont révélées par la structure bien connue des graphes de relation sociale (small world graphs). En effet, la plupart des graphes de relations sémantiques entre unités lexicales (comme la relation de synonymie) ont eux aussi les caractéristiques spécifiques de ces graphes "petit monde". Notamment, de même que les humains appartiennent à plusieurs groupes sociaux à la fois, les mots appartiennent généralement à plusieurs classes sémantiques en raison du phénomène omniprésent de la polysémie (mots qui possèdent plusieurs sens apparentés). Néanmoins, l'existence d'un forme d'organisation hiérarchique est indubitable : certains mots ont des significations très générales alors que d'autre sont plus précis, et on peut observer une structure fractale quand on parcourt l'ensemble du lexique. Nous présenterons ici les méthodes qui ont été utilisées ces dernières années pour mettre en évidence cette organisation en calculant à partir du graphe une représentation géométrique dans laquelle chaque mot est associé à une région plus ou moins étendue d'un " espace sémantique ". Nous montrerons que les régions de grande connectivité sur le graphe correspondent à des zones de densité élevée dans la représentation géométrique. Ainsi la structure du lexique peut être visualisée à différentes échelles, mettant en lumière les dimensions de sens pertinentes à chaque niveau, depuis la macrostructure globale jusqu'à l'organisation locale la plus fine.
