Abstract:
Η παρούσα εργασία πραγματεύεται το ζήτημα της φωνολογικής αναπαράστασης του νεοελληνικού ημιφώνου j και της σχέσης του με το υψηλό φωνήεν i. Εξετάζονται οι ποικίλες ημιφωνικές πραγματώσεις [j, ʝ, ç, c, ɟ, ʎ, ɲ] (στο εξής [J]) συγκριτικά με τη φωνηεντική πραγμάτωση [i] και προτείνεται μια ανάλυση στο πλαίσιο της Διαβαθμισμένης Αρμονικής Γραμματικής (Smolensky & Goldrick 2016). Συγκεκριμένα, υποστηρίζεται ότι το φωνολογικό σύστημα της Ελληνικής περιλαμβάνει δύο διακριτά φωνήματα /j/ και /i/, τα οποία διαφέρουν ως προς το διακριτικό χαρακτηριστικό [φων]. Βασικό σημείο της ανάλυσης αποτελεί η υπόθεση ότι το συγκεκριμένο χαρακτηριστικό δεν είναι δυαδικό, αλλά διαθέτει στην υποκείμενη δομή ένα διαβαθμισμένο επίπεδο ενέργειας, το οποίο κυμαίνεται μεταξύ των τιμών 0 και 1. Με βάση την παραπάνω υπόθεση υποστηρίζεται ότι το /j/ είναι προσδιορισμένο ως [0φων], ενώ το /i/ ως [xφων], όπου 0 μικρότερο του x μικρότερο ή ίσο του 1, και ότι και οι δύο φωνολογικές αναπαραστάσεις μπορούν να πραγματωθούν είτε ως [i[1φων]] ... : This MA thesis explores the underlying representation of the various realizations of the Greek glide j, namely [j, ʝ, ç, c, ɟ, ʎ, ɲ] (henceforth [J]), and its distribution in relation to the high vowel i. Under the framework of Gradient Harmonic Grammar (Smolensky & Goldrick 2016), we propose an analysis that postulates two distinct phonemes /j/ and /i/, which differ in terms of the feature [voc]. Crucially, rather than being binary, [voc] is considered to have a gradient activity level between 0 and 1. Following this hypothesis, we maintain that /j/ is specified as [0voc] and /i/ as [xvoc], where 0 < x ≤ 1, and that both phonological representations can surface as either [i[1voc]] or [J[0voc]], depending on which one yields the most harmonic output on the basis of the Greek constraint system. The proposed analysis provides a comprehensive account for the invariable realizations [i] and [J], e.g. [áðʝa] – [áðia], the systematic alternation between these realizations across inflectional forms, e.g. ...
