Abstract:
International audience ; Reunion Creole has a prenominal element bann triggering a plural interpretation of the noun phrase, an item that is shared with Mauritian and Seychellois. Other types of noun phrases can receive a plural reading: bare noun phrases, and certain NPs containing prenominal elements that are sometimes analysed as plural markers, /le/ and /de/. This article shows that the latter can be analysed as elements of code-switching, in the variety under study. It also demonstrates that bann is highly grammaticalized, and that bare noun phrases are semantically number-neutral. It is argued here that bann differs from quantifiers and cardinal expressions such as several, and that it denotes non-atomic sums (Link 2002). ; Le créole réunionnais possède un élément bann préposé au nom, qui entraîne une interprétation plurielle du SN ; élément partagé avec le mauricien et le seychellois.
