Abstract:
; The aim of this article is to describe both semantic and pragmatic properties of a Modern French discourse marker: the Lexical Matrix pour dire les choses (x). This item presents a particularity that concerns the way of saying something, and this appears either through the form of the act of uttering, or through the utterance contents. This discourse operator provides two different speaker’s attitudes toward a given viewpoint: it can refer either to the production of the act of saying the proposition, conveying the speaker’s attitude toward it, or to the final form of the utterance in which it occurs. Our claim is that the occurrence of this item offers the speaker the opportunity of taking part of the make-up of an utterance as a spokesman of a point of view whose source he does not entire-ly assume. Therefore, Pour dire les choses works as an evidential-evaluative discourse marker.
