Abstract:
This paper focuses on the Hispanic traditional ballad of El cautiverio de Guarinos. This ballad related to the ancient Carolingianepic had an extraordinary disseminationthrough the printing press of the Golden Ageand has survived almost until the present day inthe oral tradition. The first objective is to makea philological edition of the 16th century text, collating the variants of the main witnesses. Thesecond objective is to make a contrastive analysisbetween the poem «Dezime vos pensamiento»(dated in the late 15th or the early 16th century)and El cautiverio de Guarinos to verify untilwhat extent the poem is an adaptation of theballad. The third objective is to analyze if thetwo branches of the modern oral tradition thathave preserved the ballad (the Judeo-Spanishand the Romani tradition from the South ofAndalusia) are related to the 16th century text ; publishersversion ; published
