Abstract: National audience ; This paper is based on the results of a study of barriers and facilitators to school and work participation of adolescents and young adults living with cystic fibrosis. It focuses on one specific element of these, the analysis of the different discursive configurations of the self-narrative focusing on the singular relation to the representations of others and of the institution of cystic fibrosis students. The speeches collected show several forms of commitment to the disease, in particular the desire to adapt to the social environment and to overcome the reappearance of the disability. Even if social life is organised more or less in accordance with a therapeutic follow-up, weighed down by an educational context that is still poorly adapted, these young people’s own experiences lead them to break out of the disease/non-disease bi-partition to invent affinities between peers despite the disease. The contribution of this article lies in highlighting the experience of inter-individual relations and the institution’s viewpoint, which is mainly in terms of facilitating social participation, so that social life perceived as meaningful does not remain outside the school environment, where disability remains formulated as an impediment.
