The etymology of laz
Abstract: Proto-Slavic *lazъ, *lězti, *loza, and *lěsъ are explained as derived from the Proto-Indo-European root *leg’ ‛wind, bend’ through a closer look at the two origins of Proto-Slavic *lazъ and *lazь ‛(fallow) field or meadow created in place of a cut or burned forest’ and ‛narrow passage’, ‛opening, gate in a fence’.
