Desfecho alimentar pediátrico no momento da alta hospitalar : aspectos fonoaudiológicos
Abstract:
; Purpose: To describe the characteristics of the patients evaluated by speech therapist team in a tertiary hospital's pediatric unit and their feeding status outcome at discharge. Methods: This is a quantitative descriptive retrospective cross-sectional study. Data used for analysis were retrieved from electronic health records. Exclusion criteria: patients without a complete evaluation by the speech therapist, and patients hospitalized outside pediatrics unit. To verify the associations between variables, Wald Chi-Square Test, Fisher’s Exact Test, McNemar Test, Continuity Correction and Poisson regression model were used, with a significance level of 0,05. Results: A total of 386 patients were included in the study: 56% were male, 41,2% were born preterm. The median age was 190 days. The most common diagnosis were: respiratory system diseases (52,3%) and symptoms, signs and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings, not elsewhere classified (37,8%). Regarding the feeding status at hospital discharge, 175 (45,3%) were exclusively fed by mouth. Statistically significant association was observed between initial and final dysphagia diagnosis and some of medical groups of diagnoses. Conclusion: Respiratory diseases were the most common medical diagnosis among patients who received speech therapy intervention. Patients affected by endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases had a higher occurrence of food refusal. Most patients were discharged with an exclusive oral feeding.
