The first manner demonstrative, hitt-íta ‘like this’, is a simplex pronoun; the stem of the second demonstrative, hittig-úta ‘like this’, is synchronically not segmentable but can be assumed to result historically from a compositional form containing an element *g ‘manner’. The two manner demonstratives are predominantly used in adverbial function and have a reduced pronominal case system. Both can be used interchangeably in exophoric and endophoric function; they have, however, developed distinct non-deictic uses. The quality demonstrative adjectives hittigoon-á(ta) ‘such, of this kind’ and hittigaam-ú/-íta ‘id.’ are derived in a morphologically transparent way from the second manner demonstrative. Finally, Kambaata has two synonymous equative demonstrative adjectives, kank-á(ta) and hibank-á(ta) ‘this many/much, to this extent’. As adjectival modifiers of nouns and as adverbial modifiers of non-gradable verbs they identify a quantity; as adverbial modifiers of adjectives, property verbs and ideophones they identify a degree. The degree/quantity demonstratives are commonly used non-deictically as intensifiers (‘very’). ; S’appuyant sur un corpus oral ainsi que sur des données élicitées et des sources écrites, cet article examine en détail la morphologie, la morphosyntaxe et l’utilisation de six démonstratifs similatifs et équatifs en kambaaata, une langue couchitique d’Ethiopie. Le démonstratif de manière, hitt-íta ‘ainsi’, est un pronom simple ; le démonstratif synonyme, hittig-úta ‘ainsi’, a certes un thème qui est non-segmentable d’un point de vue synchronique, mais on peut supposer qu’il est issu d’une forme composée contenant un élément *g ‘manière’. Les deux démonstratifs de manière sont principalement employés en fonction adverbiale et ont une flexion pronominale réduite. Utilisés de manière interchangeable dans des fonctions exophorique et endophorique, ils ont cependant suivi des chemins de grammaticalisation séparés et ont développé des emplois non déictiques distincts. Les démonstratifs de qualité hittigoon-á (ta) ‘tel(le)’ et hittigaam-ú/-íta ‘tel(le)’ sont clairement des adjectifs dérivés du deuxième démonstratif de manière. Le kambaata dispose aussi de deux démonstratifs équatifs synonymes, kank-á(ta) et hibank-á(ta) ‘autant de ; si, tellement’. En tant que déterminant d’un nom ou modificateur adverbial d’un verbe non graduable, ils identifient une quantité; en tant que modificateur adverbial d’un adjectif ou d’un verbe (ou idéophone) qualificatif, ils identifient un degré. De plus, il apparait que les démonstratifs de degré/quantité ont couramment une valeur non déictique d’intensifieurs (‘très’).
