; The evolution of cyberspace has given rise to the establishment of social networks for both verbal and non-verbal language. Instagram, for example, stands out for exploring the photo as a form of communication. Therefore, this study observed the use of Instagram in the dissemination of "aesthetic doctrines" through images. To this end, the possible readings that users of this network could make of photographs were analyzed, as well as the potential impact of this on health. The problem behind the experiences in this network was presented from a bibliographic research, based on the idea of virtual and real social identity, by Erving Goffman, complemented by other authors and current scientific articles about the impacts of the use of Instagram. In the development of this research, it was observed that there is no effective control of the Instagram space, since anyone can be author or reader, carrying with them their experiences, emotions and social conventions of body at the time of interpretation of the photos. The content of the photo is not controllable in its entirety either, being published quickly and reinforced by different features of the network. This scenario of lack of control opens the way for the development of negative feelings that often reinforce body misconduct. However, recent studies have shown that Instagram can be a positive tool for communication and health education. But, for this to be feasible, it is necessary that more research occurs focusing on the functioning of this virtual space, the understanding of the photo as text and the use of reinforcers and their implications. Thus, it would be possible to prepare health professionals for a more effective health education on Instagram.
