Abstract:
Das Ziel dieser Dissertation ist es, die Terminologie des Erweiterungsprozesses der Europäischen Union im Allgemeinen und im Spezifischen die Terminologie der Erweiterung in den westlichen Balkanstaaten nachzuzeichnen. Es werden hierfür die Entstehung, Veränderung und Weiterentwicklung der auf die Erweiterung bezogenen Sprache sowohl in offiziellen EU-Dokumenten als auch in der lokalen Presse erforscht. Zusätzlich wird ein Versuch unternommen, die Anwendung der Terminologie „im wirklichen Leben“ zu erklären, zu beurteilen und zu vergleichen. Diese Dissertation betrachtet den Erweiterungsprozess der EU aus drei unterschiedlichen Perspektiven: Vorerst wird untersucht, wie der Erweiterungsprozess in offiziellen EU-Institutionen angegangen und definiert wird und, außerdem, wie die Ziele, Kriterien, Bedingungen und Erwartungen aus offizieller Seite an die Beitrittskandidaten vermittelt wurden. Zweitens wird die Methodologie dargestellt, die die EU-Institutionen verwenden, um den Fortschritt eines spezifischen Staates auf diesem Weg zu bewerten und zu benoten. Und schließlich wird überprüft, wie die Verlagsmedien eines konkreten Staates diesen Fortschritt wahrnehmen und dem allgemeinen Publikum vermitteln. Zu diesem Zweck wurden drei Korpora erstellt. Das erste Korpus beinhaltet offizielle Dokumente der EU-Erweiterungspolitik. Das zweite enthält Dokumente über die Bewerbung der Republik Mazedonien um eine EU-Mitgliedschaft, die Verleihung des Status eines Bewerberlands und den Fortschritt des Landes auf diesem Weg. Das dritte, sehr spezifische Korpus besteht aus zwei Teil-Korpora, und zwar aus Zeitungsartikeln der beiden mazedonischen Tageszeitungen Dnevnik und Utrinski vesnik. All dies wurde sowohl diachronisch als auch chronologisch untersucht, wobei mittels eines korpusbasierten Ansatzesbesonders die terminologischen Änderungen und veränderte Verhaltensweisen auf dem analysierten Gebiet dargestellt wurden. ; The aim of this dissertation is to portray the general enlargement terminology of the European Union and more specifically, the enlargement terminology concerning the Western Balkans. It delves into the development, transformation and evolution of the enlargement language both, in official EU documents and in the local written media. Additionally, it intends to evaluate, compare and interpret the ‘real life’ application of the terminology. This dissertation examines the enlargement process of the European Union from three perspectives. Primarily, it observes the enlargement process as defined and approached by the official EU institutions, as well as the manner in which the objectives, criteria, conditions and prospects were officially communicated to the candidate countries. Second, it studies the methodologies used by the EU institutions to asses and evaluate the progress of a specific country on this path. Finally, it reviews how the country’s publishing media perceived and communicated this progress to the general readership. For that purpose three specific corpora have been compiled. The first one entails official documents on the EU enlargement policy. The second corpus encloses documents on the candidature of the Republic of Macedonia for EU membership, granted candidate country status and progress on this path. The third, most specific corpus encompasses two sub-corpora containing newspaper articles from the two Macedonian daily newspapers Dnevnik and Utrinski vesnik. All of the above has been examined diachronically and chronologically, depicting the terminological and attitudinal alterations in this area subjected to analysis, via a corpus-based approach.
