Abstract:
Human communication is an act characterized by its great complexity, which consists of two types of language: verbal or spoken language, composed of all linguistic signs, and non-verbal language, which includes paralanguage, kinesics, chronemics and proxemics. Both types of language are present in every communicative act, although there is evidence that non-verbal elements play a fundamental role as meaning regulators and delimiters. Therefore, due to its crucial importance, non-verbal communication is an essential component of the teaching/learning process in order to ensure the learner’s ability to understand the language and the context in which it is spoken. The present Master’s dissertation offers an analysis of non-verbal communication and its two systems, as well as it addresses its treatment in the Spanish classroom. This is a didactic proposal in which the audiovisual element (specifically, Almodóvar’s filmography) and the educational component are combined to create a series of recreational and motivational activities, aimed at B2 learners, which allow the exploration of the non-verbal component and the awareness of the different functions that non-verbal signs perform throughout the communicative act.
