Abstract:
Though in Moroccan Arabic, daba is a linguistic marker with a wide variety of uses, it had never been described previously. Through translation, daba is associated with French maintenant (now). This sudy belongs to the field of Arabic dialectology. Its purpose is to determine what we do with daba and how we came to do so. We describe how a first series of uses may have come into being through the taking into account of two generic values (EARLY, LATE), a primary relationship early rather than late and three successive frameworks that drove its evolution. Then we show that, with the help of other elements in the language, these first uses have been completed (by ˁad for expressing immediate anteriority), augmented (with -k), or suppleted (by using the noun saˁa “moment, hour”). Finally, we explain how three extended uses of daba (a remediative future, a discourse particle and bħal_daba used to hypothesize) emerged from instances of its use within the context of a series of processes. The whole description is conducted by positing that uttering daba is to establish a contrast between two states of affairs. ; Daba est en arabe marocain un marqueur linguistique qui se prête à de très nombreux emplois, mais dont la description n'avait jamais été entreprise. En traduction vers le français, il est rapporté à maintenant. Cette étude de dialectologie arabe vise à comprendre ce que l'on fait avec daba et comment on en est venu à le faire, en décrivant tout d'abord un premier cercle d'emplois dont la mise en place repose sur un couple de valeurs génériques (TOT, TARD), une relation première tôt plutôt que tard et trois cadres successifs qui ont assuré son évolution. Nous montrons que, avec l'appui d'autres éléments dans la langue, ces emplois se sont vus complétés (au moyen de ˁad pour l'antériorité immédiate), étoffés (au moyen de l'augment -k}) ou suppléés (en recourant au nom saˁa “moment, heure” et que, à partir de leurs valeurs dans le contexte d'une série de procès, ils ont aussi donné lieu à trois emplois étendus : un futur remédiatif, un marqueur du discours et un emploi qui permet notamment de poser une prémisse. L'ensemble de la description est réalisée en posant que employer daba, c'est instaurer un contraste entre deux états de faits.
