Celle-ci est le résultat logique d’un régime linguistique monolingue appliqué dans des situations de communication multilingues. Ainsi, les institutions ont recours à des interprètes non formés au lieu de développer des solutions reflétant la diversité linguistique de manière systématique. Au vu de problèmes courants tels que le travail effectué dans l’urgence ou l’indisponibilité des interprètes, on pourrait aussi bien constater que l’interprétation improvisée renforce les problèmes liés à l’usage d’une langue étrangère et, plus globalement, à la communication entre médecins et patients. Sur la base d’études de cas analysant l’interaction entre le médecin germanophone et le patient allophone, et d’interviews menées avec des médecins s’appuyant fréquemment sur des interprètes improvisés, les auteurs discutent la façon dont la traduction et l’interprétation sont gérées dans les établissements médicaux allemands. Ils concluent que la culture traductionnelle (Prunč, 1997) appliquée néglige les enjeux communicationnels nécessaires à la médiation linguistique dans un contexte médical et maintient ainsi les barrières linguistiques (Bührig & Meyer, 2004). ; `titreb Multilingual practice, language regimes and translational culture in a German hospital `/titreb In this article, the authors analyse the role of ad-hoc interpreting within medical institutions in Germany. Ad-hoc interpreting is the result of a monolingual language regime vis-à-vis a multilingual communication situation. Thus, institutions use untrained interpreters instead of developing solutions that reflect the linguistic diversity systematically. Based on case studies analysing the interaction between German-speaking doctors and allophone patients, and interviews with doctors often relying on untrained interpreters, the authors discuss how the translation and interpreting are managed in German medical facilities. They conclude that the applied translational culture (Prunč 1997) neglects communication issues necessary for linguistic mediation in a medical context and thus fosters the linguistic barriers (Bührig & Meyer, 2004).
