ToM is a high-level function which enables to conduct social relationships and to adapt our behavior in social interactions. Some authors propose that ToM would rely on several cognitive mechanisms, from low-level processes involved in the analysis of perceptual cues available in the environment, to high-level processes, as executive functions, necessary to the representation of other's point of view. However, the relationships existing between ToM and executive functions stay unclear, and if several evidences from studies in pathological populations suggest such a relationship, its nature is not well-defined. In this paper, we propose to present results in favor of an involvement of executive functions in ToM and to discuss more specifically the role of inhibition and shifting in the ability to put away one's own perspective in order to attribute mental states to others. ; La théorie de l'esprit (TdE) représente notre capacité à inférer les états mentaux d'autrui tels que leurs croyances, intentions, connaissances ou émotions. Il s'agit d'une fonction de haut niveau indispensable à la conduite des relations sociales et à l'adaptation de notre comportement en situation d'interaction. Plusieurs auteurs proposent que le fonctionnement de la TdE nécessiterait le déploiement de mécanismes cognitifs variés, notamment des processus de bas niveau permettant le traitement d'indices perceptibles dans l'environnement mais également la mise en oeuvre de processus de haut niveau telle que les fonctions exécutives, nécessaires à la représentation du point de vue d'autrui. Or, les relations existant entre TdE et fonctions exécutives sont encore peu claires et si plusieurs études réalisées dans la pathologie suggèrent un lien évident, la nature de ce lien reste mal définie. Nous proposons dans cet article de revenir sur les évidences de la littérature supposant un rôle des fonctions exécutives dans la TdE et de discuter plus spécifiquement le rôle des processus d'inhibition et de flexibilité cognitive dans notre capacité à mettre de côté notre propre perspective afin de pouvoir attribuer des états mentaux à autrui.
