International audience ; This study deals with the use of the connective "and". It is part of a larger project aimed at assessing the impact of cognitive processes (memory-based and/or inferential) on the establishment of referential links. Seven- to eleven-year-old children who were native speakers of French told "silent" two-character comic strip stories to a same-age peer. In the consecutive-display condition, the comic strip was in booklet format with one frame per page, whereas in the simultaneous-display condition, allframes were on the same page. In the arbitrary-link condition, the events in each comic strip, although presented as a sequence, could have occurred in any order, whereas in the ordered-link condition, the order of the events could not be changed. In the maintained-topic condition, the materials were designed to induce a thematic subject right after the first frame (by the repeated presence of the same character in every picture, up to and including the last one), whereas in the changed-topic condition, the other character appeared alone in the last frame. The analysis focused on cases where and was used at the beginning of the narration of last frame to change the text pattern established so far. The results showed that and was often used in this way in the experimental condition that facilitated event interconnection. In this condition, the 9-year-olds employed and in co-occurrence with another connective to mark the end of the story, whereas the 11-year-olds mainly used it when the topic changed. The discussion deals with the strategic use of "and". ; L'étude porte sur l'emploi du connecteur " et ". Elle fait partie d'un projet plus étendu destiné à vérifier l'impact des activités cognitives (mnésiques et/ou inférentielles) sur l'établissement des liens référentiels. Des enfants de 7 à 11 ans ont raconté à un pair d'âge qui ne les connaissait pas et ne les voyait pas des bandes dessinées (BD) "muettes" à deux personnages. Les BD différaient entre elles par : le mode de présentation, le type d'enchaînement des événements et la continuité thématique. En présentation consécutive, la BD avait la forme d'un carnet comportant une vignette par page. En présentation simultanée, les vignettes étaient disposées sur une seule page. L'enchaînement arbitraire présentait en séquence, des événements interchangeables du point de vue de leur chronologie. L'enchaînement ordonné était constitué d'événements non permutables. Lorsque le thème était maintenu, la BD était conçue pour induire au-delà de la première vignette un sujet thématique (par la présence répétée d'un même personnage jusqu'à la dernière incluse). Lorsque le thème changeait, l'autre personnage de la première vignette figurait seul dans la dernière image. L'analyse se focalise sur les emplois de " et " situés au début de la narration de l'événement montré dans la dernière image et qui changent la norme textuelle établie antérieurement dans la narration. Les résultats montrent l'importance quantitative de cet emploi lorsque l'intégration et l'interconnexion des événements sont facilitées par le dispositif expérimental. Dans ce cas, alors que les enfants de 9 ans emploient " et " en co-occurrence avec un autre connecteur pour marquer la transition vers la fin de l'histoire, les enfants de 11 ans emploient principalement " et " en cas de changement de thème. La discussion porte sur le caractère stratégique de l'emploi de " et ".
