Abstract:
Pichi is an Afro-Caribbean English-lexifier Creole spoken on the island of Bioko (Equatorial Guinea). This paper focuses on typologically noteworthy aspects that invite comparison of Pichi with related English-lexifier contact languages of West Africa. It provides a sociohistorical overview, a typological summary, a presentation of the tone system of Pichi, and a comparison of the tense-mood-aspect systems of Pichi, Naijá, Cameroon Pidgin, and Ghanaian Pidgin English.
